Cate Blanchett Update: Says She is Proud Of Emma Watson Regarding Gender Equality Speech

Cate Blanchett is one of the greatest fans of actress Emma Watson and she recently talked about in the latest issue of Porter magazine.

The star had nothing but kind words for Watson, best known for her role in the Harry Potter franchise. Watson was appointed by Ban Ki Moon as the United Nations Women Goodwill Ambassador. She delivered the emotional speech last September at the United Nations headquarters as she launched her "HeForShe" campaign.

The Australian actress has talked about the British actress citing her United Nations speech regarding gender equality. Watson's speech was indeed the talk of the town as she raised important points and powerful statements making a lot of people re-think how they are treating men and women.

Blanchett shared: "I was so f--king proud of Emma Watson's speech at the U.N. It was brilliant, such an incredible use of her airspace, and really passionate. It was fantastic."

Watson has started her speech addressing everyone in the room about her being appointed for the said post six months ago. She added, "The more I've spoken about feminism, the more I have realized that fighting for women's rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating. If there is one thing I know for certain, it is that this has to stop."

She also talked about feminism and tried to eradicate the notion that feminists are basically women wanting to have favorable rights only for them. However, the actress said that: "It is the theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes." She noted that she always questioned herself about gender-based assumptions even before she was appointed with the said post.

She also said that now is the time for everyone to see all genders as a spectrum instead of two sets of people with opposing ideals. She noted that everyone should just stop defining each other by what people are and not by who they are.

The interview of Blanchett will be out on the newsstands on Friday.
