Harry Styles, One Direction Steal Spotlight From Taylor Swift at the American Music Awards 2014

The 42nd American Music Awards 2014 held on Nov. 23 at the Nokia Theater, Los Angeles was a star studded event as their exemplary performance in the field of music was given recognition.

Famous celebrities Luke Bryan, Beyonce Knowles and Katy Perry were among the victors who took home the trophies in the said event. New artists like 'One Direction,' Sam Smith and Iggy Azalea also bagged the awards, CBS News reported.

Ecstatic Liam Payne of 'One Direction' said that it was a perfect day and they feel that America is like their second home. They won the Favorite Artist of the Year Award, Pop/Rock Band and Favorite Pop/Rock Album Award for "Midnight Melodies."

The Australian star, Azalea, was also honored with an award presented by Jamie Foxx for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album for "The New Classic." Azalea was so elated for having received her first ever award saying that hip-hop inspired her to pursue a career in America adding further that, "It's what helped me as a teenager to escape...Thank you so much...T.I. for believing in me."

American Music Award for Best Male Pop/Rock Artist went to Sam Smith who emotionally accepted the award saying, "Genuinely from my heart, I didn't think I was going to win this. This is unreal."

On the other hand, Taylor Swift also rendered a breathtaking performance of her single, "Blank Space" from her 1989 album. The stage was filled with energy as Swift clad in glistening attire held the audience' attention in a four-minute stance.

Acclaimed artists in the entertainment industry also graced the stage with their talents; Ariana Grande also performed "Break Free" and "One Less Problem," Imagine Dragons also presented the new single, "I Bet My Life," and Lorde's "Yellow FlickerBeat" performance, among the rest, has made the awards night splendid.

The event was aired live on ABC, Sunday night.
