One of the world's favorite movies just had a big birthday, but the "Shawshank Redemption" 20th Anniversary DVD also gave us something to treasure from now on: a reunion of its stars, Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman!
The film that takes the number 1 spot in IMDB's top 250 movies of all time was first released in 1994 so, of course, this year a "Shawshank Redemption" 20th Anniversary DVD was definitely in order - and all the better if fans could witness a reunion of the film's two stars, now both Oscar-winning actors: Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins.
According to E! Online, Robbins and Freeman (who played Andy Dufresne and Red respectively in the famous prison film) were together at a recent screening of their famous movie, while the "Shawshank Redemption" 20th Anniversary DVD comes out to the public.
The screening happened at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, in an evening honoring the famous movie and the release of the "Shawshank Redemption" 20th Anniversary DVD. Other key members of the movie's production attended the screening, such as co-star Gil Bellows and the film's screenwriter and director Frank Darabont, who made his directorial debut with the adaptation.
"Shawshank" is based on a Stephen King novella, full name of "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption." Contrary to most of King's work, the original piece - as well as its adaptation - has no horror in it, and it's rather the story of a man (Robbins) who is wrongly imprisoned for the murder of his wife, until he ultimately escapes. In the prison - Shawshank - he becomes friends with Freeman, the man who gets things inside the premises.
Darabont later adapted and directed another Stephen King prison drama, "The Green Mile," although that one also contains a strong hint of the supernatural, a common theme in King's works.
The movie's screening while awaiting the "Shawshank Redemption" 20th Anniversary DVD release was a special one, hosted by writer Max Brooks (author of "World War Z" and son of comedy legend Mel Brooks and "Mrs. Robinson" actress Anne Bancroft) and organized by the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences, according to The Daily Mail.
