First Grader Denied Lunch: Shock as First Grader Denied Lunch Over Negative Lunch Balance

First grader denied lunch over a negative lunch card balance. 7 year old Xavier was denied lunch at school for a negative lunch balance. The first grader had to be sent home to his parents with a card indicating his lunch balance by the school food department.

Xavier loves his math homework almost as much as he does his fruit and vegetables. However, this year, on October 20, he had to forfeit his lunch fruits and vegetables after the lunch lady denied him lunch.

Xavier recalls that it was during lunch hours and the lunch lady was serving food. "It was a sack lunch. It was in a bag. She was passing it around to everybody. The lunch lady said, 'Guess what? You can't have a lunch.' She said that. She said I can't have a lunch," Xavier said.

The first grader denied lunch incident has dented the school image in a terrible way. Cascade View Elementary was where the whole incident played out. The first grader was sent home with a rumbling tummy after a whole day at school with a note that indicated the lunch balance on his card.

Xavier's dad was infuriated by the incident. Xavier is on the free lunch program. However, instead of being fed at school, he had to come back home hungry. The first grader denied lunch incident was too much for the boy's father to bear.

Eric, Xavier's dad, is on food stamp program. He explains that the state program covers the lunch card balances. He even goes on to recall the incident happened to him when he was young and he has never been able to get past it.

The Snohomish County School District say they are investigating the matter. The school went on to state that even if Xavier had a negative balance, he was still entitled to a Cheese sandwich and endless fruits and vegetables. It is not immediately clear why that did not happen and what did was the first grader denied lunch.
