A mall has used mannequins that are pregnant school girls as they wanted to send a message. The mall is said to be located in Caracas, Venezuela.
The mannequins are dressed in schoolgirl uniforms and are lined up on the windows for display. However, despite the good intentions of the mall, people who have seen these are said to be acting negatively and are freaking out.
According to reports, local charities were responsible for the said display. These are identified as Fundana and Construyendo Futuros and they had the idea of putting up the pregnant statues dressed in school uniforms that children are said to wear until the age of 15 in the country.
The organizations reportedly wanted to draw attention to the rapidly increasing number of cases of young people getting pregnant in the country. According to statistics, there is one underage girl getting pregnant every three minutes in South America. This has been proven by a recent study run by the United Nations.
Construyendo Futuros president Thalma Cohen said, "It's amazing seeing people react as they walk by. This is such a taboo subject in Venezuela, we want people to talk about it. Some people get angry and complain. Others congratulate us."
Not all people love the idea as eighteen-year-old Kelly Hernandez from the area pressed that she thinks the display is awful and horrible noting that if she was a mother, she would not like her children to see such.
According to the organizations, they are hoping that these displays will force the parents and kids to have a dialogue about the growing concern and about having unprotected sex. The display is said to last for a month and will be popping out in various malls around the said country. The mannequins will be displayed whatever people think about it.
