Canada’s 6-Month Airstrikes On ISIS: ‘Operation Impact’ Launched In Iraq

Canada airstrike ISIS- Canadian military forces launched their first airstrikes on ISIS targets in Iraq on Sunday. Two CF-18 fighter jets fired 500-pound laser-guided bombs near Fallujah City which took place for almost four hours.

Canada's first airstrikes on ISIS were plotted at construction supplies owned by the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. CBC News reported the airstrike bombs are aimed at strategic locations. Canadian Defense Minister Rob Nicholson confirmed the report on Sunday stating that the attack happened in the vicinity of Fallujah, a strong area of the militants.

However, the Canadian government didn't release further statement regarding Canada's airstrikes on ISIS. He said reports will be announced on Tuesday, 48 hours after the mission.

"Today's strike demonstrates our government's firm resolve to tackle the threat of terrorism and to stand with our allies against ISIL's atrocities against innocent women, children and men," Nicholson stated. "I thank all our men and women in uniform for their work on this important mission."

U.S. Central Command in Tampa said four Canada airstrikes with laser-guided bombs on ISIS struck on a large ISIS unit in the area. The airstrikes hit and wrecked one ISIS dump truck and five ISIS bulldozers used to build obstacles.

Sunday attack was the first ever Canada airstrikes on ISIS. Dubbed as 'Operation Impact,' it is their first time involvement in an offensive attack over the militants as they joined U.S. and other coalition forces.

Canada has prepared two CP-140 Aurora surveillance planes, C-150 refuelling jet and six CF-18 fighter jets in Kuwait.

As Canada launches their airstrikes on ISIS, the government has also consigned 600 Canadian personnel to the operation. They are also ready to provide Iraqi security forces with military aids and training.

Canada is committed to a six-month airstrike mission on ISIS. Last month, U.S.-led coalition forces made nine airstrike attacks using unmanned drones and fighter jets. It is reported that U.S. targeted small ISIS unit, vehicle shelters and tanks of the militants.
