Rurik Jutting, the former Bank of America employee, has been charged with first degree murder in a Hong Kong court for the dual murders of two Hong Kong women, believed to be sex workers. The suspect has been remanded in custody pending the hearing of his case.
Rurik Jutting is accused of the two murders of Hong Kong residents believed to be sex workers. The bodies were found in the accused's apartment. One of them, according to a police report died days before her body was ever discovered in a suitcase.
Mr. Rurik Jutting was brought before a Hong Kong criminal court and pleaded not guilty to the charges he was accused of. The accused, who was unshaven and wearing a black T shirt during the brief hearing, appeared to be of sound mind, even confirming to the sitting magistrate that he understood the charges that he stood accused of.
Mr. Jutting had resigned just a week before he was arrested in Hong Kong. An email left on his computer at work read out, "I am out of the office. Indefinitely. For urgent enquiries, or indeed any enquiries, please contact someone who is not an insane psychopath."
Residents of his apartment in China were shocked of the news of Mr. Jutting's murder charge. They stated that the man appeared very normal to them.
Mr. Jutting was a student at Cambridge University, Winchester College.
Police confirmed that Mr. Jutting himself called them to his residence at about 3:42 in the morning on Saturday. When they arrived at the scene, they conducted a search at the house and found the bodies of his two victims in the apartment. BBC Hong Kong reports that the two victims were well known in the Hong Kong adult industry. R8urik Jutting is currently in police custody awaiting his hearing on November 10 after he did not plead for bail.
