The Victoria secret perfect body campaign is its new advertising campaign for its new line of women's bras "Body." The American retailer, which is the largest lingerie retailer in the United States, features many tall slim women adorned in the bra line as its marketing strategy, with the caption 'The Perfect Body' on the billboards.
The advertisement was first spotted in the U.K where it stirred many people's emotions, claiming the lingerie retailer was feeding the masses with negative thoughts and beliefs by claiming that one body type was perfect.
Three British students, Frances Black, Gabriella Kountourides and Laura Ferris have called upon the company to change their advertisement strategy and rebrand their billboards. It also called upon the company to change the two word phrase that promotes negative body language.
"Every day women are bombarded with advertisements aimed at making them feel insecure about their bodies, in the hope that they will spend money on products that will supposedly make them happier and more beautiful," said the petition by the three British students on their Change.org petition.
Victoria secret is yet respond to the Victoria Secret perfect body campaign backlash. The campaign has over 9,000 signatures so far and counting.
The petitioning has gone to social media with the petitioners using the trending topic #iamperfect. The ad has been getting panned by all persons, including fellow New York lingerie retailer Dear Kate. Founder Julie Sygiel said she was shocked when she first saw the campaign.
"It blows my mind that they thought it was OK to put out a campaign that looks like that, and, in my mind, is irresponsible marketing," she stated. You can join the petition against the Victoria Secret perfect body campaign by going to the Change.org website and signing the petition.
