Forest Service Bear ‘Selfie’ – Warnings Not To Take Pictures With Bears

Forest Service Bear Selfie - The U.S. Forest Service has a new job which they were never aware of before: warning people who visit Taylor Creek not to take 'selfies' with the bears.

The following is the situation in South Lake Tahoe: people visit the place to get the find there an astounding view. At the same time, there is an annual run of kokanee salmon.

Kokanee salmon is not only delicious to human beings, but also to bears. That's why these enormous creatures are all around Taylor Creek.

Human beings can coexist in the same place as bears. That's not exactly an issue. It happens in different areas all over the world. Bears are not exactly susceptible to attacking humans.

The cases are actually rare. Even when there was a report not very long ago of a bear eating a man, the man was already dead. The bear took the opportunity when seeing a food source, that's all. It did not commit an attack, though.

Still, just because the attacks are not usual does not mean that people can be so trusting. Hence, the Forest Service's warning on bear 'selfies.'

Walkers along the creek and even people who go to fish and have a smart-phone at the same time, take the opportunity to take a picture with a bear whenever they see one close.

And this raises concern to the Forest Service.

"It is presenting a safety issue. We are afraid someone is going to get attacked," shared Lisa Herron, spokeswoman for the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit and USA Today noted.

"We are telling people they need to stay on the trails and they need to stay away from the bears. If a bear has a mind to it can run very fast," the Forest Service representative added.

In other words, and very simply, Herron is stating people should not push their luck and also, taking a 'selfie' with a bear might not be the greatest and most brilliant idea of all.
