Benedict Cumberbatch Is Dr. Strange! ‘Sherlock’ Star Will Be Part Of Yet ANOTHER Popular Series!

The Internet is in a twist since last Monday, after rumors emerged that Benedict Cumberbatch's Dr. Strange could be the latest hire in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after negotiations with Oscar-nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix fell through for the role. Benedict Cumberbatch's Dr. Strange could be the Internet's favorite addition to the world of Iron Man, Captain America and Thor!

Benedict Cumberbatch's Dr. Strange pick comes as something of a surprise, but it's a wonder nobody had thought about it earlier, as he's reportedly perfect for the role.

According to an exclusive story by Deadline, Benedict Cumberbatch's the Dr. Strange choice of the studio, after talks with "The Master" star Joaquin Phoenix fell through around the time of Comic-Con, leaving the producers behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe back at square one.

Benedict Cumberbatch has been seen everywhere for the last couple of years, starring in an amazing six projects in 2013: he played classic villain Khan in "Star Trek: Into Darkness," he was famous whistleblower Julian Assange in "The Fifth Estate," he did the voices of the Necromancer/Sauron and dragon Smaug in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," he starred opposite legend Meryl Streep in "August: Osage County," was in the short film "Little Favour," released the third season of his BBC cult show "Sherlock" - and even had the time to guest star in "The Simpsons"!

This year, Cumberbatch will be back on theaters with the last installment of the "Hobbit" movies and the Oscar-buzzed "The Imitation Game," a period film where he plays Alan Turing, a pioneering British scientist and the father of computer science and artificial intelligence, who committed suicide after he was chemically castrated when it was found that he was gay, which was by then a crime in the United Kingdom. The film co-stars Keira Knightley.

Benedict Cumberbatch's Dr. Strange would have its own film, one that would be directed by Scott Derrickson and would have Jon Spaihts writing the screenplay, and is set to be released in 2016.
