Michelle Obama senate run in 2018? Apparently Michelle Obama is being courted to run for senate in 2018, that is according to the latest reports emanating from the White House grapevine.
As Barrack Obama heads into retirement, a lot of questions are being asked about the possible future of America's first family. One of those questions is on the future of America's first lady Michelle Obama. Would a Michelle Obama senate run be plausible? Before such a debate is even launched, the senate run reports need to be substantiated.
The reports on Michelle Obama's senate run kicked off last week when Senate Intelligence Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein (D-California) suggested that she would be flattered if indeed Michelle decided to run for her senate seat in 2018. Feinstein, 81, said this as she was being interviewed by CNN's Candy Crowley on State of the Union Sunday. Candy drew reference to a report published in Orb magazine Thursday suggesting that First Lady Michelle would indeed move to California on Barrack's retirement and seek Feinstein's seat in the U.S senate.
Feinstein, while responding to the question, was evasive. "I'm flattered," she said of the Michelle's possible run for her seat, "If that should be true. Somehow I do not believe it is true, but I would be flattered if it were."
Feinstein is currently Senate Intelligence Chairwoman. She has already served two years on her six year term that will end in 2018. The Californian republicans have a good chance of retaining their majority in the upper chamber in next week's elections, meaning that Feinstein would go back to the opposition on the last days of her term. Something no politician would want to endure, according to Stanford political analyst Bruce Cain, making a Michelle Obama senate run quite plausible.
It is widely believed that Feinstein will not seek reelection at the end of her term. Though Barrack and Michelle are currently not resident in California, back in July, real estate agents in Golden State revealed that the Obama's were in escrow on a $4.35 million estate in the Californian gated community of rancho Mirage. Doesn't that just shout Michelle Obama senate run?
