Belgian chocolate is ISIS latest problem: a chocolate company that went through rebranding last year and named its chocolate ISIS has now released a statement saying that due to the Islamic State of Syria, they've decided to change their name again.
The Belgian chocolate ISIS situation happened as Italo Suisse, a chocolate company founded on 1923 that went on to change their name to vamp up the chocolate's image.
The Belgian chocolate ISIS had been called Italo Suisse since 1923, when the founder of the company learned his trade as a chocolatier in both Italy and Switzerland, and he decided to honor the two nations that he'd once called home. However, after 90 years with the same name, the company decided to go through a rebranding.
The Belgian chocolate ISIS' name was changed late last year, taking the name from the brand name of their pralines and tablets, according to Reuters. The company's marketing manager, Desiree Libeert, decided on the move last year, months before the Syrian conflict took the shape of ISIS (also known as the Islamic State).
"We chose ISIS as that was the brand name of our pralines and tablets," said Libeert. "Had we known there was a terrorist organization with the same name, we would have never chosen that. We had international customers saying that they could no longer stock our chocolate as consumers had only negative associations with the name."
But now, due to the escalating political conflict with the Middle East terrorist group, the Belgian chocolate ISIS has decided to change their name to Libeert, according to The Washington Post, in honor of the family that owns and runs the chocolatier company.
It seems Italo Suiss/ISIS/Libeert is the company with the worst luck with names ever recorded - let's all hope their new one won't force them to back off once again.
