Disney Announces Moana: New Disney Princess in Animated Film for Release in 2016

Disney Announces Moana- Walt Disney Animation Studios announced Monday, an upcoming CG-animated comedy-adventure film that is set to debut in 2016. The animated film is to be directed by the dynamic duo and popular directors of "The Little Mermaid," "The Princess" and "The Frog", John Musker and Ron Clements.

 The brand new film "Moana" is about the adventure of a teenage girl who has to fulfill her ancestor's mission in the ancient Oceania in the South Pacific. According to Walt Disney, "Moana," 'born navigator' is destined to accomplish her mission by sailing to find the fabled island. She will meet a legendary demi-god Maui who will help her cross the open ocean on an action-packed journey while coming across gigantic sea creatures, incredible underworlds and prehistoric folklore.

"John and I have partnered on so many films - from "The Little Mermaid" to "Aladdin" to "The Princess and the Frog," told Clements. "Creating 'Moana' is one of the great thrills of our career. It's a big adventure set in this beautiful world of Oceania."

Musker also revealed that Disney film Moana relays the main character as passionate, spirited and a dreamer who has a unique connection to the ocean itself. "She's the kind of character we all root for, and we can't wait to introduce her to audiences."

Disney film "Moana" reportedly has been conceptualized last year. And will be patterned in an animation style like the "Paperman." Details about the visuals were not yet discussed by the studio except that it is a unique CG-animated film that is worth waiting in theaters in 2016.

Walt Disney's "Moana" is the 56th animated feature of the studio and is the first venture into the CG following the traditional 2-D animation. The upcoming animated movie is the next in line after the studio has brought "Wreck-it-Ralph" in 2012, "Frozen" in 2013 and "Big Hero 6" this year.
