Imagine finding a mouse at the bottom of your cup of coffee. Now imagine it happening while you're on your morning cup while heading to work. That is exactly what happened to Ron Morais, a Canadian who found a dead mouse in his McDonalds coffee on Monday.
Ron Morais reported to CBS news that he'd found the dead mouse as he took the last sip of his morning cup of coffee on Monday. He was on his way to Fredericton for work when he dropped by a McDonalds to grab his morning cup. He drank the whole coffee and when he almost had it done, he lifted the lid. 'I always take the lid off to get my last sip of coffee. And when I took the lid off, there was a little bit of a surprise in my coffee cup,' he said. He found the dead mouse.
The customer said it looked as though the mouse had been in the cup for a while. There were even a few droppings evident inside the cup. His co-worker Jennifer LaHaye was with him during the trip. She says, "I actually looked and it's real, he's not joking."
McDonalds released a statement claiming they would investigate the matter fully. Jason Patuano, communications manager at the eastern region of McDonalds Canada, also issued a statement on the seriousness in which the chain takes to its food safety. "We take allegations involving cleanliness and sanitation very seriously," the statement read.
A Department of Health inspection on Tuesday aid there was no evidence of pests in the restaurant and that all food items were sealed. The restaurant was not given any warnings in the report.
However, for Ron Morais, instead of being bothered with law suits, he's much more content laughing off the incident.
"I mean, hey, you know. I'm here. And I'm in better shape than the mouse," he said.
