That's according to a recent report by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).  That's perfectly good food that could be nourishing people around the world, yet it ends up rotting in landfills. But there's a silver lining! We can all be part of the solution by taking action right in our own kitchens. In honor of National Stop Food Waste Day, here are 10 easy hacks to slash food waste:

1. Plan Your Meals Like a Pro 

Planning your meals for the week is like having a roadmap for grocery shopping. You'll buy only what you need, avoiding impulse purchases that often end up molding in the crisper drawer. Need recipe inspiration? Check out meal planning apps or browse food blogs for delicious, budget-friendly ideas.

2. Master the Art of Leftovers

Leftovers aren't yesterday's news! Get creative with those extra portions. Leftover roasted chicken can be transformed into a delightful salad, while leftover rice becomes the base for a flavorful fried rice or veggie stir-fry. Embrace the power of leftovers, and you'll not only save food but also time in the kitchen!

3. Embrace the "First In, First Out" (FIFO) Method 

Run your pantry and fridge like a restaurant kitchen. Older items should be used up first!  Rotating your stock ensures you use everything before it expires. So, shove those new cans of beans to the back and grab the ones that have been patiently waiting their turn.
