According to a recent interview set to air later this month, actress Rene Russo's bipolar disorder has been haunting her for years, even though she never made a public announcement saying she suffered from this severe disorder. Rene Russo's bipolar confession came as she was going through a routine talk show appearance for her new film, Nightcrawler, which was directed by her husband Dan Gilroy and also co-stars Oscar-nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal.
Rene Russo's bipolarity confession came as a part of an interview in The Queen Latifah Show, also featuring her recent co-star Jake Gyllenhaal - neither Latifah nor Gyllenhaal knew about the actress' battle with the disorder, as she had never publicly spoken out about it. Rene Russo's bipolar outing came after the hostess asked both of her guests to tell something they'd had to "push through" in their lives, and, surprisingly, the Lethal Weapon star said "bipolar medication."
Certainly, there were some jokes while the actress shared her experience with Queen Latifah, like telling Gyllenhaal "I'm sorry you have to follow that" regarding the fact that her confession would obviously be a tough act to follow when it was time for the actor to answer the same question.
However, when it was time to get down to business, Rene Russo's bipolar confession came from a very calm place, as she talked about what made her decide to get medication for her disorder - also saying that, while she hadn't told people that in the past, she thought it was important for her to share her experience to perhaps inspire others to take the step of doing medication as well, which is a hard decision for anyone battling mental illness.
"For all the people that are having trouble and maybe feel bad about taking medication, then I had to say - I mean, I didn't expect to say this - but that was it for me," Russo said, then adding, "it's okay, you will make it through. It's not easy, but you will make it through."
