Marijuana Infused Soda Bottles Explode in Stores

Marijuana kills. It also causes cancer, respiratory complications, aggravates various body illnesses and now, thanks to marijuana soda bottles, it also can be used as an explosive. A marijuana infused soda was pulled from three Washington state stores after the bottles of the soda began exploding all over the store.

In Washington State, one of the few states with marijuana stores, a marijuana infused soda had to be recalled and pulled down the shelves as the soda bottles started exploding on their own.

Zach Henifin, manager of Top Shelf Cannabis, in Bellingham, stated that his store had received 330 bottles of the Legal brand of bottled marijuana soda. The marijuana infused soda is a production by Mirth Provisions of Longview. The manager said that the after the bottles were brought in, the soda bottle began exploding in their shelves.

"It sounded like a shotgun going off," Henifin said, "You can actually feel it, it was that explosive."

The manager stated that no one in the store was injured. However, he does not know if any of the 10 customers who bought the soda had been injured.

The founder of Mirth Provisions, Adam Stites, said that Top Shelf wasn't the only shop or marijuana store reporting exploding bottles. Main street marijuana and also new Vansterdam in Vancouver were reporting the same problem.

"It was simply the fact that his batch had a higher yeast concentration, and one of the by-products of yeast is excess carbon dioxide," said Stites, in explaining the problem.

He said that the company had pressure tested the drink to be at 14 pounds per square inch. Bottles were designed handle as much as 42 PSI. The yeast built up pressure inside the bottles for a seven to ten day period. By the time they got to the shelves, they were literally exploding.

The manager said that there was a plan to fully refund the shops.
