Jan Hooks Dies After Battling Serious Illness

This is definitely not the year for showbiz. Last Thursday, Hollywood lost another star actress in Jan Hooks. The 57 year old Jan Hooks passed away on Thursday after a long battle with an undisclosed illness. The former SNL star will be remembered for her vibrant jokes, her on point impersonations and her charisma while on the biggest stage of them all.

Jan Hooks was a celebrated Saturday Night Live star, before she fell to a serious illness. She joined the show in 1986 and went on to work with some of the biggest names in the comic history. She had a close working relationship with Chris Farley, Phil Hartman, Dennis Miller, Mike Myers and Dana Carvey. She was also most famous for being the other half of the Sweeney Sisters. She went on to feature in the show until 1991. She was famous for her rib cracking impersonations of Hillary Clinton, Sinead O'Connor, Jodie Foster, Nancy Reagan and Betty Ford.

Jan Hooks recently appeared on an episode of '30 Rock,' as Jenna Maroney's trashy and unreliable mother.

In a male dominated world, she easily stood out and excelled at her craft. She was a staunch believer in working your way to the top. "If you're talented, if you're good, you'll get work," she stated in the Orlando Sentinel in 1994 about the male-dominated 'Saturday Night Live' cast. "It's a waste of energy to complain you're not getting this or that because you're a woman. On "SNL," I found that the more you complained, the more you pigeon-holed yourself."

Jan Hooks also appeared in 'The Simpsons,' 'Futurama,' 'She had a Cameo' and 'The Martin Show.' Hooks won a Georgia era Emmy award for her performance in the hit blockbuster Tush. In 1998, the star received a nomination for her role on the '3rd Rock From the Sun.'

Jan Hooks immediately began trending on Twitter soon after her death was made public. She fought long and hard from her illness. She will be dearly missed.
