Philly Students Learn To Cook: Kids Choose Healthy Food Vs Fast Food

It's always a struggle for the American diet to choose "healthy food" especially when fast food from can serve you so fast!

So how do we choose to eat healthy versus the tempting easy to opt fast food? It's not that simple but this article might help convince you to choose to eat healthy because Philly children have been convinced.

According to Healthy Eating, most fast foods are polar opposites of healthy foods. Fast foods are high in trans fats, sugar and sodium which can lead to obesity, heart disease and diabetes among other health problems. These are things that we already know. These are lifestyle diseases, hence, choosing to eat fast food can lead to lifestyle disease. Healthy foods, by contrast, are high in vitamins, minerals, healthy fats and protein, and they promote energy, good health and longevity.

If you can't resist or totally avoid eating at a fast food, Linda Van Horn, professor of preventive medicine at Northwestern University published in the American Heart Association explained that as consumer, you just have to be selective, both about the choice of restaurant and the choices you make when you get to the fast food restaurant. Some, but not all, fast food restaurants have grilled chicken, salads, low-fat milk, fruit and even oatmeal choices for breakfast. You must be keen enough to figure out which restaurants offer such options and try to frequent those more often. Consumer behavior strongly influences what restaurants choose to serve, so if you want healthier choices, choose them and let it be known.

However, if you want to attain longevity, you'll have to choose to eat healthy. The key is to make healthy food taste delicious. This was actually done by a cooking class at Prince Hall elementary school in North Philadelphia in its continuing attempt to convince kids that they can prepare healthy dinners that taste great since the school observed that the children's favorite food are not at all nutritious, most of them love fast food like burgers from Burger King or McDonald's. Children need to enjoy what they're eating and when they prepare the food themselves and know what's in their food, there's a huge possibility that they will choose to eat healthily.
