Morrissey's cancer had been a subject of rumors for months, after the British musician had been in and out of hospitals for the past year and a half. However, it wasn't until recently that the singer-songwriter and former front man of English rock band confessed: Morrissey's cancer is a reality, and the artist has been battling the disease for quite some time now.
Morrissey's cancer confession happened at a Spanish-language interview for El Mundo, one of Spain's top newspapers. After months of undisclosed health problems, up until this point it was unknown that Morrissey's cancer was actually what had been keeping the musician canceling tour dates and getting hospitalized so often.
In the interview, the singer told El Mundo that he had undergone a series of treatments for the disease before. Particularly regarding Morrissey's cancer, he said: "They have scraped cancerous tissues four times already, but whatever. If I die, then I die. And if I don't, then I don't. Right now I feel good. I am aware that in some of my recent photos I look somewhat unhealthy, but that's what illness can do. I'm not going to worry about that, I'll rest when I'm dead."
The man who wrote and first sung the hit Smiths song 'Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want' has been known throughout his career for being mysterious and coy about his personal life, and it is certainly no surprise that he would extend this to his health situation as well.
According to British newspaper The Guardian, while this is Morrissey's first mention of cancer, he has been diagnosed with a series of illnesses over the past few months. The singer has gone from a bleeding ulcer in early 2013, to double pneumonia in March of that same year, food poisoning that July and later a respiratory infection this past summer. He's been warned by doctors to stop touring.
While Morrissey's cancer is still an ongoing battle, this doesn't seem about to stop the iconic singer: last July he released the album World Peace Is None of Your Business, he's currently touring Europe (this Thursday the 9, he'll be in Madrid) and he's finishing writing his debut novel.
