In the Harry Potter universe, Felix Felicis or "Liquid Luck" is a potion that gives the drinker luck and success in his endeavors for a period of time. A coffee shop in Buenos Aires, Argentina named their joint after this magical brew. Felix Felicis & co. is co-owned by the barista Natalia Montoya along with Marcelo Ferran, Pat Hryb, and Juan Pablo Valencia.
One of the owners, Ferran, tells Buzzfeed Espanol, "The name came from my son, Felix and from my love for Harry Potter. The choice of that potion isn't a coincidence; it has meaning: if you make it correctly, it works perfectly. If you make it wrong, the results are catastrophic and that's also true when it comes to making good coffee."
The sign is immediately noticeable as it has the image of an owl that looks similar to (Spoiler Alert!) a beloved lost character to the Harry Potter series. Furthermore, the same owl pictured with a coffee filter was inspired by a tattoo on Natalia Montoya's arm.
"A lot of people come and take pictures with our logo. One time they asked me [to] pose with a coffee and a magic wand we have here. A lot of them also ask me about another tattoo I have that says 9 and ¾. But I did it more because of the place than because I was a fan, because I was nuts about my son (in reference to the cafe)," she adds. Platform 9 and ¾ refers to the train platform students of Hogwarts use to get to school on the first day.
The owners say that the Harry Potter theme and decor was brought more about by circumstance rather than having planned it from the beginning. Apart from the Harry Potter theme, the cafe is proud of their coffee and the place's family oriented atmosphere. They have on offer a blend that is only available in 5 coffee shops in Buenos Aires. They also hope to add in the future murals inspired by the Harry Potter Universe and a library to go with the growing Harry Potter references and memorabilia in their cafe.
