On Monday, Roberto Hernandez was crowned the biggest loser. The Biggest Loser is a reality TV show wherein in overweight and even obese contestants compete in losing the most weight. Hernandez is the show's 17th winner.
A report from the Today website reveals that he went from 348 to 188 pounds, losing a total of 160. After the show, Hernandez still makes sure to workout at least once a day to maintain his weight.
While working out is just as important in losing weight, you also have to factor in what you eat. You don't have to be a contestant like Hernandez to shed off those unwanted pounds. To help increase your metabolism and burn fat, here are the food you need to take in (according to health.com):
1. Fruits and vegetables with lots of water
A few examples of these would be watermelon and lettuce. Water is known to flush out toxins in your body. However, another side effect of taking in water is it makes you feel full faster, which makes you eat less. Eating these types of food will help lower your body-mass index and lose a couple of inches off your waistline.
2. Broccoli
Your mother definitely knew what she was saying when she ordered you to eat your broccoli. It turns out that broccoli is rich in fiber, which helps you digest food and burn fat faster. It also sweeps away the toxins out of your body, lower your cholesterol level, and slows down the absorption rate of sugar. Broccoli also has calcium, which keeps your bones stronger.
3. Cabbage
This leafy vegetable is chock-full of antioxidants, which help you lose weight faster. It is also loaded with vitamin C, which boosts the energy you need to work out.
4. Grapefruit
This tasty fruit is really good for your heart. That's because it is rich in vitamin A and lycopene which protect the arterial walls of your heart from toxins.
With that said, if you load up on these foods, you'll be losing weight in no time. Contrary to popular belief, minimizing food intake is actually not an ideal diet. It's a matter of loading up on the good stuff and withholding the bad.
