McDonald's Kale Salad Has More Calories Than The Double Big Mac!

Since most fast food chains in America is trying to change their brand image as "junk" food, more and more restaurants have been offering relatively "healthier" alternatives-like salads.

Being one of the biggest in their industry, McDonald's has been innovating their menu every now and then. Aside from their brand new items like the chocolate fries and Mozzarella Sticks, McDonald's has introduced the Kale Salad! As one of the biggest superfood trend in 2015, Kale has officially penetrated the fast food scene.

If you are a struggling health freak convert but still can't say no to McDonald's, their Kale Salad seems to be the perfect choice, right? Actually, no.

As described by the makers on their website, this new creation has "real parmesan" cheese petals and a "nutrient-rich lettuce blend with baby kale," which would really tempt people on the lookout for their health and weight. But according to CBC News, the mighty Kale Salad contains more calories, fat, and sodium than a Double Big Mac. Woah there.

In fact, the salad contains more than 730 calories, 53 grams of fat, and 1,400 milligrams of salt, according to McDonald's nutritional information.

Keep Calm, Caesar On

What's wrong with chicken, cheese and a bunch of greens? Well, these ingredients may be quite perfectly healthy, but the salad is topped with Asiago Caesar dressing, which we all know is a big no-no to everyone who wants to shed off some pounds.

Fewer Calories

Compared to the Double Big Mac that contains about 680 calories, 38 grams of fat and 1,340 milligrams of sodium, the Kale Salad is really something to think about.

The American Heart Association suggests limiting sodium and calorie intake to 2,000 milligrams and 1,200-1,500, respectively.

Other Options

But, if you want to still "feel healthy" and eat at McDonald's at the same time, you can choose from the other salads under their menu. The Southwest Salad has only 280 calories and 490 mg of salt! Or you can always opt to have it without the dressing, instantly cutting off the calories, with only 15 calories and 10 mg of sodium on its own!
