‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Machete’ Actor Danny Trejo Opens Vegan-Friendly Taqueria

For those driving down La Brea Avenue near Olympic Boulevard recently, you might have noticed Trejo's signature angry face on a big sign.

Well folks, this is Trejo's new initiative to provide the "most delicious tacos known to man," which will have a soft opening early next week, and then open with the right exposure and an expanded list of menus the week after, according to Los Angeles Times.

"We have 10 different tacos," said Trejo. "It's just stuff that everybody likes."

However, the process of deciding the menus was not as simple as everyone thinks. It took the brilliant minds of Daniel Mattern (formerly associated with Cook's Country), and Trejo to decide on homemade salsas, mung bean tortillas, organic chopped kale salad, and vegan tacos with stuffing like black pepper tofu and fried avocado.

The black pepper tofu taco derives its inspiration from Chef Yottam Ottolenghi's spicy dish.

Additionally, for the non- vegan folks out there, the restaurant will also provide foods like shrimp tostadas and fried chicken tacos.

The restaurant is also keen on being virtuous enough to support the needy, and thus the day's leftover food will be donated to a local shelter for the homeless people.

"Nothing is kept overnight," said Trejo.

For the drinks, there will be a list of options to choose from for the audience. Folks can choose homemade date - sweetened horchata or seasonal aguas frescas, or even Trejo's special Cerveca, which is brewed in Arts District Downtown.

The restaurant, designed by Kristopher Keith of Spacecraft Design Group, offers a small dining room inside, but with most of the seating arrangements in the patio with communal tables and surrounded by artworks from Ernesto Yerena, a local artist.

The restaurant is the latest addition to Trejo's list of food projects, which includes Cerveca and his own coffee blend roasted in Pasadena.
