iPhone 7 Leak: Is Apple Really Getting Rid of the Classic Headphone Jack and Going Wireless Instead?

While the rest of the non-expert netizens can only rely on professional reports about Apple's hush-hush iPhone 7, the leak reports continue to surprise (and upset) many consumers who are rearing for any news about iPhone 7.

According to a write-up by Forbes' contributor Gordon Kelly, Apple may just leave out that classic headphone jack in place of a more sophisticated wireless headphone. Fast Company reportedly tapped into Apple's plans through a source who, of course, has knowledge regarding the company's plans for its latest phone in the making.

"As has been rumored, our source confirms that the new phone will rely on its Lightning cable port for sound output to wired headphones," said Fast Company writer Mark Sullivan. "That port has been used for power and data transfer in recent iPhones. Users can also use wireless headphones."

What's even more interesting is that Apple is supposedly working with Cirrus Logic, their audio chip partner, to help make the concept become a reality. And if you're one of those people who has been praying for a phone that has built-in noise cancelling, you'll be happy to know that noise cancelling technology will make the iPhone 7 an even sweeter deal. That means, you'll be able to enjoy your music and take calls properly minus the background noise.

The removal doesn't come cheap though. Quartz revealed that you may have to buy the wireless headphones instead of getting them shipped together. The Beats cordless headphones may have to be purchased separately, as these are at a premium price, comparable to Bragi Dash ($300).

Leak updates on the iPhone 7 include a thinner phone, waterproof technology and wireless charging. Not many are going to be happy about the changes though as accessories might have to be purchased. The leak about accessory purchase pushed 200,000 consumers to petition for the headset jack to not be removed.
