Google Dislikes Car Rules Proposed By California Department Of Motor Vehicles

Google is not happy with the new car rules proposed by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

In the new self-driving car rules presented by the DMV, it was obvious that the American tech company was not pleased. According to Google, the drafted rules were misguided and there is a great chance that it will threaten the flourishing technology of driverless automobiles.

In a blog post, Chris Urmson explained the real benefits of self driving vehicles which can reduce the risk of accidents caused by careless human drivers. Google also claimed that many are pushing them to create the said automobiles because of its potentials and the help it can offer.

"People are telling us daily that fully self-driving cars are worth a shot. The status quo on our roads is simply not problem-free, it has a real cost, not only in productivity and stress, but in lives damaged and destroyed by the mistakes of human drivers. Around the world, 1.2 million people die on the roads each year. In the U.S., 94 percent of crashes are caused by human error," the Google executive and robotic-car expert wrote.

In the set of draft rules presented by the DMV, several key points were presented in terms of proper deployment of cars. Some of the points were manufacturer certification/third party testing, licensed driver requires a vehicle, three-year deployment permit and privacy and cyber-security requirements. These key points made Google really upset as it can hinder the progress of self-driving vehicles.

It can be observed that the technology of self-driving cars is now consistently advancing. With the use of the latest devices like on-board radar and cameras, driverless vehicles can offer individuals comfort and safety at the same time. It can greatly reduce the chance of road accidents including death rates.

However, the main disadvantage of the computer operated cars is the chance of having glitches which can cause more dangerous accidents.

The first public hearing concerning the new set car rules will be held next year. If totally approved, it will be implemented in the year 2016.
