Syrian Refugees News: Girl Spends Birthday Raising $2,000 for Syrian Refugees with Hot Chocolate Stand

Most six year old kids these days already have a "dream" plan in mind for their birthday next year. A bouncy castle, a pool party or a fun park bonanza. But for a little Canadian Girl, she decided to spend her birthday helping Syrian Refugees with hot chocolate.

Abigail MacDonald from Ontario, Canada dedicated her special day to the bigger cause - a cause that not all six year olds could think of. She turned seven years old last Friday.

Megan and Alex MacDonald originally planned to take her and her friends out to lunch and a movie to celebrate but the little girl and her pack of friends have other things in mind.

Instead of a traditional birthday, "Hot Chocolate for Hope" was created.

With the money meant for movies and lunch, they instead used it to buy hot chocolate drink supplies.

Megan and her family just wanted to help.

We didn't have a goal. We just thought, 'what a great way to create community buzz

The chocolate stand invitations handed out to friends read:

Saturday, December 12. 47 Wellington St., Paris. Drop in from 11:00 to 4:00. Donations to bring a Syrian Refugee Family to our Community. Cookies and Hot Chocolate provided. Any donation gratefully received.

Abby was very hands on during the whole event and her favorite part was getting to sell hot chocolate, and making people happy and getting donations.

Online news reported that the family raised more than $2,000. All of Abby's proceeds will go to the benefit to sponsor a Syrian Family of six or more for a period of a year, cared for by the church of Saint Paul.
