7 Surprisingly Dangerous Foods For Pregnant Women And Babies

We've already released a guide on how to eat healthier when you're pregnant. Here's another list of food items that pregnant women shouldn't be eating and this might surprise you.

Foodbeast creates a list of food that you should avoid when expecting a baby. While raw meat and alcohol may be an obvious "no-no" for pregnant ladies, you'd be surprise to know there are more types of food you should steer away from. So keep those cravings in check and be guided with this list:

1.     Caesar Salad

Although it may sound healthy, this classic dish contains one potentially harmful ingredient for pregnant ladies: raw egg. Consuming the undercooked yolk may put you at risk for Salmonella. The bacterial strain is often associated with raw chicken. It is best to cook eggs above 160 degrees.

2.     Parsley

This seemingly harmless garnish is not recommended for pregnant ladies. If consumed in abundance, it can lead to uterine contractions, worse an early delivery. It is better to avoid this altogether than risk early delivery.

3.     Deli Meat

Cold cuts, bologna and charcuterie can be a source of Listeria. While the chances of acquiring Listeria are quite low, expectant mothers are susceptible to this and may pass it along to the baby. This can lead to complications, worse death.

4.     Water

Babies shouldn't be drinking tap water as they have very weak immune system. Infection from liquid can easily spread throughout the infant's body. More so, sodium loss can cause seizures and brain inflammation.

5.     Cinnamon

Same as parsley, the excessive consumption of this can lead to premature labor.

6.     Juice

Unpasteurized juices are not good for the baby. So if you are in doubt whether it has gone through the process, better stay away from it altogether. This can cause diarrhea and you definitely you don't want that.

7.     Eggs Benedict

It's not much of the poached egg. It's more on the hollandaise dressing. See Caesar salad for a little reminder.

Now that we've given you a list of seemingly healthy food but not actually good for expectant mothers, it's always best to stuff ourselves with information to have a safe and healthy delivery.
