A new flavor is coming to town and it promises to give your good ol' buffalo wings a zesty twist. Apparently, Buffalo Wild Wings is coming out with limited edition Mountain Dew-flavored chicken wings. It will sell until December 14 of this year only, BGR reported.
B-Dubs official description of the wings coincides with the Citrus Bowl college football game between University of Michigan and University of Florida on New Year's Day 2016. Here is what B-Dubs has to say:
To celebrate the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl, Buffalo Wild Wings partnered with Mountain Dew to create a limited time only sauce - Zesty Citrus. Available in restaurants from December 14, 2015 throughJanuary 2, 2016, the bold citrus flavor of Mountain Dew was infused with lemongrass and spicy red pepper-flakes to create a blast of sweet and spicy that will leave Guests asking for more.
Many are skeptical about the use of Mountain Dew of all things in buffalo wings. However, the practice is not so strange as it is already a practice to use soda in food. In any case, the unusual mix is producing a lot of mixed reactions.
NY Daily News reported that the soft drink sauce is made from Mountain Dew, ginger, soy sauce, lemongrass, and red peppers. Truly, it is a far cry from the traditional options like Sweet BBQ and Desert Heat that the chain has become known for.
Daily News Taste Kitchen did not have nice things to say about the concoction. "The Mountain Dew gives it a thick sweetness like those candied fake fruit slices. They're just too sweet. There's a bit of spiciness, but it tastes like it came out of a factory, not an actual pepper," a reporter said.
"Why would anyone go to Buffalo Wild Wings for something other than a proper Buffalo sauce is a puzzle to me," the same reporter added.
