Exciting New ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Footage Out! Film to Permanently Change Entire Marvel Cinematic Universe? [Release Date, Cast, Plot, Rumors & Spoilers!]

New footage of "Captain America: Civil War" has been released, and according to new reports, the film will play a vital role in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Marvel is on its Phase 3 in its interconnected series of superhero films. Since "Captain America: Civil War" is the latest film to be released by Marvel, it's expected that the highly-anticipated film will set the ball rolling in drastic changes to occur in the superhero universe, according to Cinema Blend.

The new "Captain America: Civil War" footage is included in the Marvel Phase 2 Blu-ray Box Set. Spanning 95 seconds, the video features various cast and crew and exciting new footage of the upcoming film, according to BGR.

The Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony, who jointly directs the film, explained in the "Captain America: Civil War" footage that the film is a culmination of previous Marvel films and how the superheroes grapple with the consequences of those films in the past. Director Joe Russo said that "Civil War" will serve as a launch pad on the changes set to take place in Phase 3.

"It's going to challenge the way you think about Tony Stark, it's going to challenge the way you think about Steve Rodgers, and when you come out of that film, nothing will be the same," he said.

"Captain America: Civil War" is the effect of the tension among Earth's superheroes from an incident involving Crossbones, as reported by Cinema Blend. The resulting "massive global backlash" leads to the Sokovia Accords, which requires superheroes from then on to follow only government's orders. Not completely agreeing with the mandate, the Avengers split into two factions, the pro-government and the anti-government. Tony Stark/Iron Man leads the former, while Captain America/Steve Rogers leads the latter.

Things, from then on, "will be permanently changed," as Russo said.

In the process of upholding the Sokovia Accords, Avengers friendships and alliances break down.

Apart from the usual team of superheroes, "Captain America: Civil War" will also throw in new characters into the mix, previously unseen in the MCU. These include Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), who is rumored to play an integral role in the film's plot, and Spider-Man (Tom Holland).

"Captain America: Civil War" is slated for release on May 6, 2016.
