There's no denying that The Weeknd has been having a really good year. Not only did he have two number one singles in 2015, but he also garnered a whopping seven nominations for the 2016 GRAMMY Awards.
But it seems as though that's not enough, as The Weeknd just dropped the music video for the latest track off his album, "Beauty Behind the Madness," aptly called "In the Night."
According to Entertainment Weekly, "In the Night" is "about a stripper with a deeply troubled past." The music video also boasts a heavy grindhouse film and '80s vibe. Complex reports:
"The video, six minutes long and directed by BRTHR in Brooklyn, noticeably stars the Canadian singer's supermodel girlfriend Bella Hadid as a waitress at a run-down club. The whole clip, heavy on the action and film noir vibes, builds up to a climactic ending where it's Hadid to the rescue."
Although the video starts out dark and moody, it even goes further and pushes boundaries somewhere in the halfway mark of the almost seven-minute video. There's a lot of blood, just in case you get queasy with that kind of thing.
It seems as though he's going for Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" music video vibe. Showing a lot of action, "blood, guns, and breathlessness," the new video also has an accompanying movie poster.
Sharing the photo on his Twitter and Instagram accounts just a few days before the music video's release, Abel Tesfaye simply captioned it: "in the night directed by @_brther_."
