Scarlett Johansson Talks About Black Widow's Role In 'Captain America: Civil War' And How She Felt About The Hulk Breakup

Black Widow may be one of the most mysterious characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe despite having appeared in the most movies. When the 'Captain America: Civil War' teams were revealed, Natasha Romanoff has once again succeeded in surprising fans when it was discovered that she is on Team Iron Man instead of siding up with long-time ally Steve Rogers.

So what has influenced her decision to work with Tony Stark? Scarlett Johansson recently spoke to EW about Black Widow's stand in 'Captain America 3.'

"I think when you find her in 'Civil War,' she's looking to strategize her position, putting herself in a place where she is able to let the powers that be fight it out or whatever amongst themselves," Johansson said. "She's always a little bit on the perimeter so she can have a better perspective of what's really going on."

Scarlett Johansson explained further to offer a better hint on what is going on in Black Widow's head.

"I think she understands where everyone is coming from and none of it really matters to her, you know? There's a bigger problem at hand and she's, I think, strangely, kind of the mediator, which is not exactly how you would imagine her to be. But I think she really does see both sides of the coin and I think her strength is that she's not personally involved," she said.

Although that's not entirely true, since Natasha Romanoff got involved with Bruce Banner aka the Hulk in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron.' Scarlett Johansson also shared how Black Widow felt when Banner decided to hightailed it and left her at the end of the movie.

"I imagine that there are a couple of ways you could respond to that. Maybe you want to call it abandonment or whatever it is, exactly. Vulnerability, rejection. I think that you can turn inward and be very hurt and bitter and that would have been an easier choice," she said, before adding that Black Widow is much smarter than that.

"She understands that Banner did what he had to do. Certainly she's not going to be the person to chastise someone who's not ready to open up. I don't think she's taking it personally," Johansson concluded.

'Captain America: Civil War' will premiere on May 6, 2016.
