In the British Independent Film Awards on Sunday December 15, 2015. The Thriller Ex Machina won four awards earning the event's top awards which includes Best British Independent Film
Alicia Vikander and Oscar Isaac are the lead roles in the award-winning film. Ex-Machina beat The Lobster, Macbeth, 45 Years and Amy Winehouse documentary Amy for the biggest award of the night. The movie also won the Best Director Award which was handed to it's director Alex Garland. The movie also won Best Screenplay and Best Visual Effects Award or Outstanding Achievement in Craft was handed to Andrew Whitehurst, this being the fourth victory for Ex-Machina.
Domhnall Gleeson, who is also part of the cast, lost out on Best Supporting Actor, but instead showed his support to his father Brendan Gleeson, who won the award as Nest Supporting Actor for his role in Suffragette.
The Best Supporting Actress award went Olivia Colman for The Lobster. The other acting awards to Tom Hardy for the movie Legend Tom Hardy while the Best Actor award went to Saiorse Ronan for the movie Brooklyn.
The Best International Independent Film went to Tense drama Room while Abigail Hardingham (Nina Forever) was awarded the Most Promising Newcomer award.
The other special awards were given to 12 Years a Slave star Chiwetel Ejiofor, who also bagged the Richard Harris Award, named after the late Harry Potter star, in recognition of his "exceptional service" to the film industry, an the Variety honor was given to Kate WInslet, which is given to an actor, director, writer or producer who has helped gain the international interest on the United Kingdom.
According to Winslet , "I absolutely love acting. I love it more and more. Independent film has been my best friend for 23 years, and continues to enrich my life beyond measure. Independent film is where I have learned the most and laughed the most."
The 2015 British Independent Film Awards was held at The London's Old Billingsgate Market.
