Since the release of Danny Boyle's "Trainspotting," the stars of the original film have gone on to do great things, with Ewan McGregor going off to do films like "Moulin Rouge!" and "Star Wars" and Johnny Lee Miller currently starring in his own show, "Elementary," with Lucy Liu - but now, nearly two decades after the film, the "Trainspotting" cast is confirmed for the sequel!
Just in case you were wondering what happened to the crew of heroin addicts from Edinburgh, a few months back, Boyle announced that they were adapting Irvine Welsh's sequel to the original story, "Porno," where the characters meet again years later and end up working in the pornography business - and the "Trainspotting" cast from the original movie will be joining the movie.
According to Coming Soon, the "Trainspotting" cast has now officially confirmed their appearance in the sequel, including McGregor, Miller, Ewen Bremmer (who was recently in Ridley Scott's "Exodus") and Robert Carlyle (currently among the stars of the fantasy ABC show "Once Upon a Time"), reprising their roles as Renton, Sick Boy, Spud and Begbie.
Deadline reports that the "Trainspotting" cast will begin shooting the still-untitled sequel next spring, with director Boyle eyeing a 2017 release for the film, though nothing regarding the schedules and official premieres has been announced.
Besides the "Trainspotting" cast and Boyle, the sequel will count another key figure in its crew: John Hodge, who wrote the original movie's screenplay, was also responsible for penning the sequel.
According to Collider, shooting for the sequel will happen while the main cast is on hiatus from other projects (Miller and Carlyle, most notably, as the two have tighter schedules due to their television work), working around their usual timetables.
In any case, fans are finally getting back some of that X-Gen craze with the film's sequel, now officially including the original "Trainspotting" cast!
