Finally, Director J.J. Abrams has addressed Luke Skywalker's whereabouts in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," well, more or less.
Abrams has spoken out recently why Luke Skywalker has not appeared in any of the new "Star Wars" previews.
In the video above shared by Zap 2 It, Abrams is shown revealing the reason for the Luke Skywalker mystery as he is interviewed by Howard Stern.
"Here's the thing ... I really want to make sure we're not ruining the movie for people, that they're not seeing too much of it before it comes out," Abrams said.
"'I hate when I go and see a trailer and I feel like I've just seen a whole movie in an encapsulated form.' It's a move studios make time and time again in order to sell a movie. But as the director states, 'You don't have to do that to sell a movie!'" the director added.
Apparently, Abrams wants fans to be surprised in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," and Luke's fate is the one thing he chose to keep a mystery until the release of the film.
Meanwhile, as Abrams chose to keep mum about the subject, Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill himself left some hints for fans, according to the International Business Times.
First, Hamill confirmed that he will be reprising his role in the film. He also revealed that his character will be stuck in isolation in a planet very far, far away.
The 64-year-old actor also shared that Luke will be a completely different person in "The Force Awakens."
Other details, like his feelings while shooting scenes in the film, was also reportedly discussed by the actor.
"It reminded me of when I was in Tunisia on the salt flats. If you could get into your own mind and shut out the crew and look at the horizon, you really felt like you were in a galaxy far, far away," Hamill said.
While Abrams tried to keep Luke a secret, it's now obvious that he will still reappear in the new "Star Wars" movie.
As for other details, they remain unknown.
Meanwhile, the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" plot is said to center on the lives of new characters Rey and Finn, who goes on an adventure to find Skywalker.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is slated for release on December 18.
