Coldplay Super Bowl 2016: Band Announced To Headline Halftime Show For Super Bowl's 50th Anniversary

Coldplay will give sports fans a sudden “rush of blood to the head” as they set to be the 2016 Super Bowl Halftime headliner at the Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, California on February 7, 2016.

The British rock band, which features Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, and Will Champion, has signed on to perform at the annual sporting event’s 50th year.

Coldplay beat out a bunch of acts who were reportedly interested in playing Super Bowl 50. Britney Spears was reportedly in talks to play the football extravaganza, as were Taylor Swift and even Adam Levine‘s band, Maroon 5.

There were reports that One Direction would even postpone their hiatus to turn it up at Super Bowl 50, but it’s a different British band that secured the top billing spot.

Insiders add that 2013 performer Bruno Mars will also be involved in the show in some capacity, as will other "friends of the group."

Coldplay has never done the gig in the past, but would certainly put on a great show!

Coldplay will mark the first rock band to headline the Super Bowl since The Who in 2010. In recent years, the NFL has gone the pop music route.

Recent Halftime acts include Katy Perry, Mars, Madonna, and Beyonce, who recently collaborated with Coldplay for the song “Hymn for the Weekend.” She is also reportedly in talks to make a special appearance.

While Beyonce doesn’t need a reason to perform anywhere or anytime, it would make sense to see her on stage with Coldplay, as she’s one of the artists featured on Coldplay’s new album, A Head Full of Dreams.

A formal announcement is expected on the eve of the release of the band’s new album.

Coldplay’s seventh and likely last studio album, A Head Full of Dreams, hits shelves on Friday, December 4.
