As a growing number of chains around America are joining the trend to deliver home, one of the first to announce they were making the big move was the biggest coffee chain in the world, and now the Starbucks delivery has reached the first areas in the Seattle area - but not everyone's too happy about it.
Months after first announcing Starbucks' delivery plans, the chain has launched a pilot program in its headquarters city, teaming up with app Postmates so people in a few neighborhoods of the Jet City to enjoy their beverages without having to walk two blocks to the nearest one, but there's a catch patrons weren't counting on: delivery costs more than the items!
According to Yahoo! News, Seattle is in fact the second city to get the Starbucks delivery after New York, and for now the new pilot on the west coast is available only on the iOS version of the chain's app alongside the Postmates one.
However, patrons were shocked to see the high prices of the Starbucks delivery service, after it was found that the fee remained $5.99 whatever the cost of the product they were purchasing, even if it was a single shot of espresso.
As Tech Crunch reports, considering the Starbucks delivery service is 6 bucks and tips are expected, it seems clear that the delivery target isn't the everyday person who's picking up their coffee to go to the office, but rather getting drinks for the entire office, as it wouldn't make too much sense otherwise - particularly given the fact that there's a Starbucks almost in every corner.
According to Seattle Times, for now, these are the only neighborhoods in the city that apply for the chain's delivery: downtown, South Lake Union, Capitol Hill, Madison Mark and SoDo; for now, there will be a one-hour window for deliveries but Starbucks will be cutting the time back to 30 minutes as the Starbucks delivery service progresses.
