The surf is definitely up as the remake of the movie 'Point Break' will launch with superlative action scenes that were not featured previously in the original movie which was released in 1991.
This is according to Luke Bracey, of Home And Away, who plays the role of an FBI agent Johnny Utah. The role was previously played by Keanu Reeves. Reeves' arch nemesis in the original film was played by Patrick Swayze who was the leader of an underground surf gang. The story revolves around how Bracey's FBI character penetrates the underground surfer and thrill seeking group of athletes that are suspected to be criminals.
Sport adventure action scenes such as rock climbing, big wave surfing, wing suit flying, sheer face snowboarding, and high speed motorcycling. The film is getting a lot of buzz from it's promoters billing 'Point Break as the first Hollywood film to have it's world premiere in China. Bracey attended the Beijing premier on Tuesday and he foresees that 'Point Break' has hatched a new trend in Hollywood movies.
The cast of the movie is comprised of Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez as the athletes' leader Bodhi, Australian actress Teresa Palmer as a surfer, and British actor Ray Winstone.
Kathryn Bigelow helmed the original movie that grossed $US83.5 million worldwide. However the budget of the remake is more than $US125 million.
According to Bracey, some of the stunts in the film "hadn't even been thought of when the original was made, in the original they were still paddling into waves". During the mid- 1990s "started using jet skis just to catch waves that were bigger than they could paddle into." "So, to use a cliche, it's bigger, and it's better and it's just a huge movie in terms of how different it is from the original," he said.
Wing suiting, the sport of flying through the air in a special suit, hadn't been conceived at that time and it was in the mid-1990s.
The film was shot in 9 countries including scenes of wingsuit flying in Switzerland, free rock climbing in Venezuela, snowboarding in the Italian Alps and surfing in Hawaii. According Bracey the remake "expands across the world."
"It's a kilometer above the Earth, and that had me hanging off Angel Falls looking down, telling them to turn on the cameras in case I fell so at least it was on camera," he said.
'Point Break' will open in China on Friday, three weeks before the US on Christmas day and Australia on January 1. The Chinese movie fan base is going strong and is heading toward going beyond the US Market.
