Did 'Homeland' Just Turn Peter Quinn Into The New Jon Snow? [SPOILERS]

It seems like 'Homeland' is taking some notes from 'Game of Thrones' and 'The Walking Dead' when it comes to the ambiguous deaths of main characters.

In the ninth episode of 'Homeland' Season Five, the captive Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) ends up being subjected to a huge dose of sarin gas. The exposure was masterminded by the Plötzensee prison terrorists who wanted to test the nerve agent for an attack in Berlin.

But since simply killing off major characters is no longer popular, there is a twist in 'The Litvinov Ruse': Just before Quinn is sent into the gas chamber, he tries to escape and is injected with an antidote by Qasim (Alireza Bayram). The man's act of mercy was probably brought on by Quinn's emotional speech about the effects of sarin gas and how an attack on innocent people simply isn't right.

But did the antidote work? The episode ends with Quinn being sealed up in the chamber as the gas is turned on and it isn't long before the effect of the nerve agent become obvious. It isn't a pretty sight, so the producers of 'Homeland' did the viewers a favor by cutting away just as things were getting excruciating.

So did Peter Quinn survive his visit to the gas chamber? The character's ambiguous fate is somehow similar to the way 'The Walking Dead' showed Glenn Rhee falling into certain death in the episode 'Thank You.' However, fans refused to believe that the clever character could be easily killed off in the TV series.

Rupert Friend's Peter Quinn may not have the same fanbase as Jon Snow or Glenn Rhee, but there is a possibility that he will survive the gas chamber. That is, unless the antidote didn't work or the chamber didn't actually leak then maybe it's time to say goodbye to the CIA operative.

Find out if Peter Quinn is still alive when 'New Normal,' the tenth episode of 'Homeland' Season Five, airs on Showtime on December 6.
