For decades, "Star Wars" fans and all kinds of geeks in the world have held heated discussions on whether it was Greedo or Han Solo who shot first in the original film of the franchise, "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope" - and now, the man behind the movie, George Lucas, is finally settling the matter.
In subsequent special editions of the film, it has become clear that it wasn't Han Solo who shot first but rather Greedo, but fans have been complaining of the new edits for years, but it's now time for Lucas to say, once and for all, what's behind this controversial scene.
The filmmaker and billionaire (who sold Lucasfilm to Disney a few years back, and with it the rights to another Harrison Ford-starring franchise, Indiana Jones) recently spoke to The Washington Post and he defended once again his own theory that it was bounty hunter Greedo who first opened fire, giving his two cents on the Han Solo shot first controversy.
"Han Solo was going to marry Leia, and you look back and say, 'Should he be a cold-blooded killer?'" said the filmmaker, via Rolling Stone Magazine, as he defended the idea that it wasn't Han Solo who shot first. "Because I was thinking mythologically - should he be a cowboy, should he be John Wayne? And I said, 'Yeah, he should be John Wayne.' And when you're John Wayne, you don't shoot people [first] - you let them have the first shot. It's a mythological reality that we hope our society pays attention to."
According to Entertainment Weekly, Ford himself was also asked to weigh in on the Han Solo shot first controversy, but the Oscar-nominated actor refused to do so, telling fans to knock themselves out with theories - but the director of the upcoming seventh episode "The Force Awakens," J.J. Abrams, is definitely convinced it was Solo who started the shootout.
It seems like the matter of whether Han Solo shot first will never, ever be settled!
