DiGiorno Pizzeria - The well-known Pizza store tweeted a message to promote people to buy from them in a "catchy" way. What they mistakenly did, though, was reference a domestic violence situation with Ray Rice, the running back.
It is an awful situation when someone chooses to joke about a delicate subject. They mean well mostly but it ends up in an uncomfortable time due to the fact that a lot of people may take it in a bad way. This is basically what happened to DiGiorno Pizzeria.
DiGiorno Pizzeria is a retailer of frozen pizzas that work in USA and Canada, and have been doing so since 1996. Before that, they worked with pasta for some years.
The event that unfolded with DiGiorno Pizzeria is that yesterday, in a way to promote themselves and surely in a totally innocent way, they posted a message on Twitter that read "#WhyIStayed For the Pizza." The hashtag #WhyIStayed was related to Ray Rice and they issue involving domestic violence he is facing with his fiancée.
There were two hashtags going around online, one way #WhyIStayed and the other one, #WhyILeft. Many people use these two to talk about their personal experiences with domestic violence in an emotional level so it wasn't taken well by the costumers who saw that as a joke by DiGiorno Pizzeria.
When the Pizza place received all the complains from people, they understood that what they had done didn't have good consequences and in an attempt to show how sorry they were, they posted on their twitter "We heard from many of you, and we know we disappointed you. We understand, and we apologize to everyone for this mistake."
DiGiorno Pizzeria continues running smoothly and we hope they haven't lost the respect and most importantly, they haven't lost a big amount of costumers over this misunderstanding.
