J.J Abrams Speaks Up About The Roles Supreme Leader Snoke And Maz Kanata Will Play In 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'

The 'Star Wars' excitement is definitely not showing any signs of subsiding as Empire recently unleashed six amazing covers featuring 'The Force Awakens' characters. The magazine's special 'Episode VII' issue doesn't only have Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron, Captain Phasma, Han Solo and Chewbacca on the cover; there are interesting new details about the film's most mysterious characters, as told by director J.J. Abrams.

According to Making Star Wars, the 'Lost' creator had a few choice words to share about the two performance-capture characters in 'The Force Awakens.' J.J. Abrams basically confirmed that Supreme Leader Snoke was responsible for Kylo Ren becoming a bad guy.

"He was critical in the seduction of [Kylo] Ren to the Dark Side," Abrams said of the villain. "He is a hugely important part of the story and will continue to be."

Supreme Leader Snoke has been the subject of several fan theories, including a well-written Reddit theory suggesting that the First Order leader is actually Jar Jar Binks from the 'Star Wars' prequels. However, Andy Serkis, who plays the villain, has confirmed that Snoke is a completely new character in the 'Star Wars' franchise.

J.J. Abrams also spoke about Lupita Nyong'o's character Maz Kanata.

"She has been a smuggler for a long time and has been running this watering hole for a thousand years," he said. "She is the sort of barkeep you go to for help."

The Pirate Queen from Takodana may have also helped in training a certain stuck up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerfherder. A 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Look and Find children's book has previously revealed that Maz Kanata was actually Han Solo's mentor before the events that took place in 'A New Hope.' If this is the case, the Pirate Queen might also make an appearance in the Han Solo standalone film.

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' will premiere on December 18.
