Kurt Sutter Reveals the Reason Why He Cancelled His Very Own Bastard Executioner

Change is the only thing constant - and Kurt Sutter surely knows that. Known for his genius in Sons of Anarchy, he took the bitter pill and announced the cancellation of The Bastard Executioner after only being aired for one season. Even taking out an ad Sutter The Hollywood Reporter to announce the cancellation.

His
reason? The show has been getting low viewership and ratings, "The audience has spoken and unfortunately the word is 'meh.' So with due respect, we bring our mythology to an epic and fiery close," he said.

He stresses out the fact that television is purely a ratings game, "It's fantastic to get a good review [or] an award, but at the end of the day the only thing that matters, really, is numbers." He also added that there is no use in writing something that nobody is watching, "I'm not the guy sitting in my ivory tower spitting sh*t out and not caring if anyone is watching... I don't want to write something that nobody's f***ing watching."

E! reports that Sutter explained that the show is not widely accepted by people since it appeals only to a niche group.

"I think the mythology was a little too dense for some people. There's a glut of period pieces on right now, and I'm sure timing has something to do it. There's just so many f***ing variables involved in that formula. My sense is that a year from now, people will be like, 'Why didn't you make more?' I mean, I get so many people telling me they're on episode four of Sons."

In his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sutter revealed that he emailed his cast and crew before taking out the full-page ad that contains the cancellation of the show.

"I'm really proud of the work we did and I wish it could continue," he said, "But I think this is the most graceful way to bow out. There's no animosity."
