Chinese-Born Miss World Canada Not Allowed To Attend Pageant In China

Anastasia Lin, 25, is Canada's Miss World contestant. She was born on China but deprived to board a flight going to a beauty pageant final that will be held on China.

According to the Toronto actress the move serves as a punishment for speaking out against human rights abuses in the country.

The crowned Miss World Canada in May, was not permitted to have a visa before her arrival for the contest's finals in Sanya, on the southern Chinese resort island of Hainan.

The beauty queen is aware about the regulation which allows Canadian citizens to get hold of a landing visa upon arrival in Sanya so she attempted to enter the country.

The Falun Gong practitioner told the Hong Kong's international airport reporters about preventing her to board a Dragonair flight to Sanya. Falun Gong is a religious group in China.

"There's no comment from the Chinese embassy ... so I realize that's the tactics they're using, they just want to let it die down," said Lin, while wheeling a silver suitcase and dressed in a long brown trench coat.
"It's very difficult to stand up for what you believe in. I need to figure out what to do next," she added.
During a U.S. congressional hearing, Lin had testified about the religious persecution present in China in July. According to Lin, her move to speak is a heavy decision which allows her to "speak for those in China that are beaten, burned and electrocuted for holding to their beliefs".

"I have every right to be there to represent my country," the Chinese-born Canadian citizen told CNBC. "Because Hainan is a special island ... upon arrival we are eligible to receive a landing visa, so that's what I was trying to do."
The Miss World grand final will be held on December 19.
