British scientist Richard Dawkins caused a social media uproar as he compared "clockboy" Ahmed Mohamed with a young ISIS killer in his Twitter account.
He was reacting to information that the Mohamed family was suing the city and school officials in Texas for damages to the tune of $15 million dollars. It was noted that the boy was reported to the police and arrested after his teachers thought he was carrying a bomb to school.
Dawkins said on Twitter that the boy did not really make a working clock, but rather took out a clock's insides and placed them in a box. He even said that the child is a hoaxer.
In the past, Dawkins questioned the intention of Ahmed Mohamed to be arrested just to be perceived as a victim of discrimination.
When he was accused of picking on a kid, he replied that the "kid" in question is old enough to sue the government. The scientist then pointed his Twitter followers to a disturbing video of a child from the Islamic State fighters who beheaded a Syrian army officer. He then asked how old the killer is. The boy looked like a ten year old.
After Dawkins posted that tweet, he then drew critisism in Twitter and was accused of picking the two kids for comparison just because both are Muslims. Some of the scientist's supporters rushed to Dawkin's side though and pointed out that the comparison is not about both being Muslims, but about both being of the same age.
Regarding the criticism, this is what Richard Dawkins has to say in his Twitter account: "HORRIFIED anyone thinks I could POSSIBLY liken Ahmed to a killer. My ONLY point of comparison was their AGES: kids not immune to criticism."
He concluded that the comparison is not about the kids' religions but about them being young but not blameless.
