Artificial Intelligence Might Alter The Future of Thanksgiving for Workers

Holiday season officially starts now; and Thanksgiving is the kick off of the holiday season. Every household is busy preparing with each of the family members having a different role to play. The mom busy cooking in the kitchen, the dad roasting the turkey and the kids preparing the dinner table. This is a typical scenario inside a house during Thanksgiving. But unfortunately not all have this luxury as not all have time off from work during this holiday. Most companies still decide to keep their stores open.

REI, the famous outdoor retail company which has 143 stores, though made headlines when they announced that they will be closed on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. This will allow their employees to spend the holidays with their loved ones with these days being paid offs. And Amazon, due to their automated wharehouses, can have the liberty to remain open during the holidays with not having to need a full attendance from employees.

According to Huffington Post, these two companies have shown two different trends that can be the future of businesses during Thanksgiving. First, employees are getting more paid day offs and second, is the reliance of businesses to automations. Both have caused the rise of artificial intelligence (AI). And when this happens robots will be utilized for workforce. And if a company would allow employees not to report for work, business flow will not be interrupted, it is because of AIs.

Will getting more paid day off well for people? Does it mean that robots will take over most of human's jobs?

Many studies showed that AIs, robots, and automated system are already present in the industrial and corporate settings. These jobs are only minor. But, a warning has been given by experts. As the technology advances, robots will be created with a mind of their own and totally replacing all humans at work.

An article on CNBC said that Jeff Greene, a billionaire said, "In the not-too-distant future, humans in the workplace could go the way of the horse-and-buggy because of the 'exponential growth of artificial intelligence."

During an interview about AI on MSN, Martin Ford shared that appropriately adapting to the situation like having an assurance of income will be great. It is like a future with employees not being obliged to work dangerous and uninteresting jobs, and them having more time to spend with family and friends, especially during holidays like Thanksgiving.
