George Clooney, Johnny Depp and Zac Efron may be among the brightest and in-demand stars in Hollywood, but in 2015 they also appeared in some of the biggest movie flops.
All three famous actors joined Bradley Cooper, Sean Penn and Bill Murray in headlining what Forbes called Hollywood’s biggest fool of the year. The percentage was based of each films' budgets that they earned back at the theaters as of November 18.
Comparing worldwide box office earnings with production costs, the list mentions which films failed to impress in cinemas this year.
Bill Murray's "Rock the Kasbah" took the number one spot with an estimated cost of $15 million but only made $2.9 million at the box office. The movie was an American comedy film and was released on October 23, 2015, by Open Road Films.
In second place is "The Gunman" starring and co-written by Sean Penn, a French-American action thriller based on the novel "The Prone Gunman," The film is about Jim Terrier (Penn), a mercenary who assassinates the Minister of Mining of the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2006 on orders from multinational mining companies. It only made $10.7 million.
"Blackhat" a hacker film following the stereotypical, illegal hacking groups starring Chris Hemsworth is in third place, Zac Efron’s, electronic dance music movie “We Are Your Friends” was listed in 8th place and "Mortdecai," an American action comedy film, starred Johnny and Gwyneth Paltrow, came in tenth place with box office takings of $47.3m. It cost $60 million to make.
Clooney's blockbuster "Tomorrowland," a science-fiction mystery adventure film came to be the fourteenth place.
Forbes arranged the list based on box office takings and estimated production budgets for films that were widely released in North America from January-October 2015.
