If there is one song that is known to almost the entire globe is "Eye Of The Tiger" as the Rocky Balboa song. The singer of Survivor, the band that made that song possible, Jimi Jamison died on Sunday.
Jimi was only 63 years old, still had a long way to go. He had a heart attack on Sunday night.
He was born in 1951 in Mississippi and moved the day after to Memphis, so he always said that he was from Memphis and not Mississippi. He self-educated himself in guitar and piano and already by middle school he joined his first band.
His way with the bigger bands happened in the 1970's. First, he was in Target, then moved to Cobra near the 80's and stayed there for nearly four years before joining Survivor.
The band didn't take too long to release their main and most well-known hit, "Eye Of The Tiger." Jimi passed also to be in a more Rock band than Cobra which was a more Heavy-metal kind. The changes can be differed when listening to the two bands. Jimi added to Survivor not only a lead singer but also a change in the tune they were having up to the moment.
Their second album, "When Seconds Count" made a Top 10 hit as well. What he liked doing with most of his bands, was also play tributes to other bands and play their songs, but when being with Survivor and becoming famous, he had to stop this and commit to only playing the songs of the band. He even said, "Sometimes we'll start to do an encore and then someone will say, 'Let's do a Led Zeppelin song' and I have to say, 'No, let's keep on with this'." Jimi had a very powerful voice, so he could reach up high notes and low ones so with every song the tributes actually paid off.
Another hit he made was the main theme song of Baywatch, and he was also invited to join Deep Purple as the lead singer but had to reject the job and stay in Survivor.
The band faded close to the 90's and later returned in 2000, releasing another album, "Reach." In 2009, Jimi made an album himself named "Crossroad Moment" and last but not least, in 2011 released a last album with Toto's former lead singer.
Jimi had a prolific career and didn't fall into oblivion like many artists from the 80's have. He will be missed by his fans and everyone who remembers his songs.
