Two passengers of a United Airline flight were kicked out of the plane because of their very loud argument over knee defenders.
What Are Knee Defenders?
A post in the Mirror gave a description of the device. Basically, a knee defender is a plastic gadget that can be attached to the meal tray of the seat fronting the user. This will prevent the person sitting in front of you from reclining his seat.
The Knee Defender makers posted on their site the main advantage of using one. It said, "Helps you stop reclining seats on airplanes so your knees won't have to."
The site also says the device is ideal for plane passengers who have small children, frequent traveler who needs to work during the flight or anyone who does not fancy getting his knees hit by a reclining seat.
The makers of this unique device are exploiting the fact that the spacing of seats in many airlines are becoming cramp. However, arguments over the use of knee defenders may increase among airline passengers.
Legal Status of Knee Defenders
With the growing popularity of this space preserving device, airline attendants are taking upon themselves to require people to remove the device. Attendants will give the excuse that they interfere with the operation of the plane's equipment. The FAA on the other hand, has yet to issue a ban on the knee defenders, if they have any intention at all.
Legroom on Planes
In the same Seat Guru study, it featured a comparison on long haul flights among the different airlines. The comparison was further divided into Economy, Premium Economy and Business. In the study, the business class of Thai Airways has the roomiest airline seat albeit one of the most expensive. China Southern Airline has the least legroom based on the same Seat Guru survey.
