The FDA requested peanut butter recall for certain brands after the result of their routine testing. Cases of Salmonella infection that has been detected earlier this year may be related to the consumption of these brands according to their study. Inspired Natural Foods Inc. issued a voluntary recall for their products for fear of distributing contaminated peanut butters to their retail lots.
Inspired Natural Foods Inc. issued a statement saying, 'we are initiating this voluntary recall of the products as a precautionary measure.' The FDA is cautioning consumers to be wary of their possible risks since these products has been distributed to United States, Saudi Arabia and other countries and can even be ordered online where strict regulation and monitoring is deficient. Distributors of the products are being notified reagrding peanut butter recall.
Salmonella infection which has been one of the most frequent causes of food poisoning in the United States and globally, is now being feared to have contaminated peanut butter products. Serious health consequences may result after ingestion of food contaminated with Salmonella. Early onset of Salmonella infection is manifested by fever, chills, abdominal pain, general weakness, nausea and vomiting. However rare, advanced stages of Salmonella infection may result to blood infection progressing to arterial infections such as aneurysm, endocarditis and certain forms of arthritis. Peanut butter has a favorable environment for the bacteria to thrive and is excellent environment for its multiplication. Four cases of Salmonella infection has been detected causing the peanut butter recall.
The FDA informed the public that food products suspected to be contaminated with Salmonella should be dispose immediately and safe disposal should be ensured to avoid recycling of these products. Consumers need to contact the company who distributed these products for refund and replacement The FDA is determined to increase awareness regarding food safety and ensuring public health following the peanut butter recall incident.
